Men’s Tennis to Open Season with Hofstra / St. John’s Invite

Red Storm to compete over three days on its home court
QUEENS, N.Y. – Red Storm men's tennis is set to open its fall season this weekend when it co-hosts the three-day Hofstra/St. John's Invite.
The four-team tournament is set to begin at 11 a.m. on Friday as Fairleigh Dickinson, Hofstra and Drexel will join the Red Storm at the on-campus St. John's Tennis Courts over this weekend. Play will resume at 11 a.m. on Saturday and at noon for the final day of competition on Sunday.
Two All-BIG EAST selections from last year's league runner-up squad in Axel Vila Antuna (First Team) and Carl Gustavsson (Second Team) have returned to Queens.
Vila Antuna was a mainstay at the no. 1 singles position in the spring of 2022. In doubles, he partnered with recent graduateIgnacio Garcia and posted a team-best 15-3 record.
Gustavsson burst onto the scene during his rookie campaign, immediately finding a home in the Red Storm line-up. The Sweden native held a combined 23-14 record in singles and doubles play in his first year.
Head Coach Dillon Pottish has added four newcomers to his squad, including 2022 All-ASUN First Team selection Diogo Marques, who arrives from Stetson. The Portugal native spent every match in the top singles slot for the Hatters last season.
