Peicheng Chen sits in first place after 36 holes
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The St. John's men's golf team sits in fourth place after the first day at The MacDonald Cup.
Through 36-holes, the Red Storm posted an 11-over par 711 as a team. The Johnnies are 10 strokes behind tournament leader Minnesota.
Peicheng Chen dominated in his first two rounds as he tallied an event-leading 14 birdies on the first day. Chen came into the clubhouse at 11-under (129) to lead all competitors.
Jack Simon and Gage Wolfle are locked in a tie for 31st as the pair each carded a 146 through the first 36 holes. Brendan Smith finished a stroke behind the duo, signing off on a 147 for the day. The Monmouth transfer was one of eight golfers to record an eagle during the first two rounds.
Ryan Rittberger carded a 148 to tie for 40th place after day one. Tyler Gerbavsits rounded out the Johnnie squad, posting a 150 through 36 holes.
