QUEENS, N.Y. – Senior forward Wesley Leggett has signed his first professional contract, taking his talents to Loudoun United FC, United Soccer League (USL) affiliate of D.C. United.
The Lawrence, N.J., native is the second Johnnie to be signed or drafted by a D.C. United-affiliated club, joining Jeff Carroll, who was selected with the 39th pick in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft. Leggett wrapped up his collegiate career in the fall, setting career-best marks in goals (4), assists (4) and points (12) in 17 games last season.
In his three seasons in Queens, the 5-foot-9 forward amassed 44 games played, 12 of which were in the starting XI. Of his 10 career goals at St. John's, two were game-winners, taking down Princeton in a 2-1 affair on Sept. 27, 2022, and knocking off Creighton, 2-0, with a 70th-minute goal on Sept. 24, 2021.
The UConn transfer helped the Red Storm to a 20-19-8 record during his tenure, including a trip to the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament in 2021.
