St. John’s Travels to No. 25/RV Villanova for Saturday Tilt

Red Storm to face second nationally-ranked opponent in four days
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's women's basketball team will take on its second nationally-ranked opponent in four days when it travels to No. 25/RV Villanova on Saturday.
Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. at Finneran Pavilion with Nick Mantegna and Christine Motta on the call on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports
St. John's (14-2, 5-2 BIG EAST) fell to No. 4 UConn on Wednesday night at UBs Arena on Long Island. The Huskies shot 62.3 percent from the floor in the 82-52 victory.
Kadaja Bailey delivered a team-high 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting and had 14 in the second half alone. The redshirt senior has excelled from the charity stripe shooting 83.6 percent from the line, which leads the squad and ranks fourth in the conference.
Danielle Patterson had her best outing of league play on Wednesday. The graduate student matched a season-high 10 points on 6-of-11 shooting against the Huskies.
The team's leading scorer, Jayla Everett prolonged her streak finishing in double-figures in scoring for the 17th straight game. The shooting guard garnered her fourth BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll nod on Monday.
The Johnnies' conference leading scoring defense will face the nation's leading scorer in the Wildcats' Maddy Siegrist on Saturday afternoon. The dynamic forward is averaging 28.7 points on 50.3 percent shooting and 9.8 rebounds per game. On Monday, the Poughkeepsie, N.Y., product broke a conference record earning her 13th career BIG EAST Player of the Week award.
Villanova (15-3, 6-1 BIG EAST) re-entered the Associated Press poll at No. 25 this week on the heels of a six-game winning streak. The squad's last loss came on Dec. 18 against Iowa State at Mohegan Sun Arena. In their last outing on Wednesday night, the Wildcats took care of business on the road, defeating DePaul, 71-64. Siegrist led all scorers with 32 points.
The Wildcats have taken the last seven match-ups between the two schools. The most recent came in the 2022 BIG EAST Quarterfinal, 76-52. Bailey led the Red Storm's scoring efforts in that one finishing with 19 points. The last Johnnies victory came on Feb. 22, 2019, a 66-62 win inside Finneran Pavilion.
After Saturday's contest, BIG EAST play will continue for St. John's on Jan. 18 when it welcomes Marquette for a 7 p.m. tilt inside Carnesecca Arena.
