Women’s Tennis Sweeps Fairfield for Second Straight Victory

Yesica de Lucas improves to 4-1 in singles play
QUEENS, N.Y. (Jan. 28, 2023)- The St. John's women's tennis team swept Marist on Saturday night at Queens College.
The Red Storm (2-3) clinched the victory after claiming the double point and the first three singles matches.
Yesica de Lucas earned her fourth singles win of the season with a victory at the no. 3 slot against Katarina Plumtree, 6-2, 6-1. She was among three Johnnies to win at both singles and doubles. Jayden Nielsen teamed up with de Lucas to earn a doubles victory against Paulina Bakaite and Sarah Liu, 6-1. Nielsen picked up her second win of the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Liu at no. 4 singles.
The duo of Willa Bay Breunich and Camila Ordonez won the other doubles match, 6-1 against Scarlett Hutchinson and Plumtree. Bay Breunich was the third Johnnie to pick up two wins on the day with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Francesca Karman.
St. John's will return to the courts next weekend with a pair of matches opening with Farleigh Dickinson on Friday afternoon at UTSA. The Red Storm closes the weekend with a Sunday matinee match on the road against Monmouth at Little Silver Racket Club in Little Silver, N.J.
