Women’s Tennis Evens Spring Record with 6-1 Victory Against Farleigh Dickinson

Yesica de Lucas and Mouna Bouzgarrou each earned two wins on the day
QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 3, 2023)- The St. John's women's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 victory against Farleigh Dickinson at UTSA Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Red Storm evened its spring campaign with a 3-3 record, and continued its three-match winning streak.
The squad started off strong in doubles play to earn the first point of the match. The duo of Jayden Nielsen and Yesica de Lucas defeated Gauri Bhagia and Namie Isago, 6-2. The Johnnies clinched the doubles point when Emilie Haakansson and Mouna Bouzgarrou earned the victory, 6-2 over the pairing of Shreya Gulia and Valentina Silva. The tandem of Nielsen and de Lucas improved to 4-2 and Bouzgarrou and Haakansson improved to 3-1 on the season.
Bouzgarrou earned her second win of the day after her opponent, Amina Lasheen retired. De Lucas was the second Johnnie to earn two wins on the day, winning 6-2, 6-2 over no. 2 doubles Alena Kubanova. The win marked de Lucas' team-high fifth singles win of the season. In no.1 singles, Lalita Devarakonda took the victory, 7-5, 6-2 against Anastasia Lim. Willa Bay Breunich and Camila Ordonez rounded out the wins for the Red Storm. Breunich defeated Bhagia, 6-0, 6-4 and Ordonez needed three sets to clinch against Isago, 4-6, 7-5, 10-5.
St. John's will conclude the weekend with a match on Sunday afternoon at Monmouth. The match will be held at the Little Silver Racket Club and doubles play is set to start at 4 p.m.
