Thomas Finn Shines in Opening Round at UConn Invitational at GreatHorse

Freshman shot 1-under and sits one stroke off the lead
HAMPDEN, Mass. – The St. John's men's golf team closed out the opening round of the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse, as freshman Thomas Finn led the charge for the Johnnies.
The newcomer shot a 1-under, 71, on a sunny Sunday afternoon in Hampden, Mass. Finn currently sits tied for fourth place just one stroke off the tournament lead. The Locust Valley, N.Y., native logged a 3.8 stroke average on the par-4's.
The defending champion Red Storm currently are tied for fifth place in the 13-team field. The squad shot a 7-over, 295, after the first of three rounds at GreatHorse.
Siena holds the team lead at 2-over, 290 after the opening day of play.
Erik Stevens had a solid day for the Johnnies shooting a season-low 1-over, 73, good for 16th place. The Monmouth transfer logged 15 pars, which ranks tied for first amongst the field.
Ryan Rittberger finished right behind Stevens after recording a 3-over, 75. The veteran matched Finn with a team-high three birdies.
Jack Breutsch had the highlight reel drive of the day nailing his first-ever collegiate hole-in-one on the par-3 15th hole. The ace was the first by a Red Storm player since Joseph Busiello tallied a hole-in-one at BIG EAST Match Play on Feb. 6, 2023. The freshman finished the first round with a 5-over, 77.
The second round for the Johnnies from GreatHorse will tee-off at 9:20 a.m. tomorrow morning. Live results will be available on GolfStat.
