Coach DePolo makes a new addition to her staff
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's softball program has announced the addition of Sean Crowell as an assistant coach on Friday.
First-year Head Coach Michelle DePolo adds Crowell to her coaching staff to join her and returning Assistant Coach Marissa Rizzi.
"We are excited to finally round out our staff with the addition of Sean. His work ethic and passion for the game will fit in great with our staff, and have a positive impact on our program as we move forward," DePolo said.
Crowell brings eight years of coaching experience to Queens. Most recently, Crowell served as an assistant softball coach for five seasons at Brown. His responsibilities included spearheading recruiting operations and player development. During his time in Providence, Crowell helped mentor 16 All-Ivy League selections for the Bears.
"Sean brings several years of quality experience in every facet of the game which will be huge for our new staff. He understands and appreciates the entire student-athlete experience. On the field, we look forward to him working with our outfielders and assisting with our hitters. Overall, we are just excited to get him started!" DePolo added.
Before his stint at Brown, Crowell was an assistant softball coach for Skidmore College. Focusing on the offensive side, Crowell helped the Thoroughbreds set a school record for doubles in a season (72). The team also witnessed an increase in hits and a decrease in strikeouts from Crowell's coaching. His other responsibilities centered around recruiting, practice planning, and opponent scouting.
The newest member of DePolo's staff got his coaching start at Dutchess Community College where he served as the head softball coach and assistant athletic director for the 2016-17 academic year. In this role, his duties included overseeing compliance, game scheduling, and coordinating team transportation.
Crowell earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Ithaca College in 2015 and his associate's degree from Dutchess Community College in 2013.
The Red Storm return 18 players from last year's team that won their opening round game against Butler in the BIG EAST Tournament.
