Track and Field Announces 2023-24 Schedule

St. John’s to race in seven New York Metropolitan Area meets
QUEENS, N.Y. (Nov. 16, 2023) – St. John's Director of Track and Field Aliann Pompey has announced the team's schedule for the 2023-24 indoor and outdoor campaigns.
This year's slate will feature seven meets in Staten Island, Manhattan and Queens, which includes two outdoor on-campus meets in the spring.
St. John's kicks off its indoor season at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island on Dec. 2, for the Youree Spence-Garcia Invitational. The Johnnies collected six individual wins at the meet last season.
Over a month and a half later, the Red Storm will return to Ocean Breeze for the Villanova Invite on Jan. 20. Brooklyn Chestnut set a personal-best time of 7.52 en route to a 60-meter dash victory last season.
One week later, the squad will split up between the BU Terrier Classic in Boston and Columbia's Dr. Sanders Invitational at The Armory in Manhattan on Jan. 27.
On Feb. 3, the Johnnies will stay put in Manhattan for the Metropolitan Championships, which are being hosted at the Armory. As a team, St. John's took first place out of 14 other programs at the meet last year.
Coach Pompey's squad will then return to Boston for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb 9-10.
After two weeks of rest, the Red Storm will gear up for the Indoor BIG EAST Championships on Feb. 23-24 in Chicago. Tatyana McKenzie was named the BIG EAST Women's Most Outstanding Track Performer and the High Point Performer of the Meet in 2023, marking the third straight season a Johnnie won both awards.
If any athletes qualify, the Indoor NCAA Championships will be held on March 8-9 in Boston.
St. John's starts its outdoor track and field season at the USF Invitational in Tampa, Fla. from March 15-16. This will be the second consecutive season that the Johnnies have competed in the meet. The Red Storm will stay on the road for the Monmouth Invite in New Jersey on March 23.
On March 30, the program returns home to host its first outdoor on-campus meet of the season, in the Big Hurt Invitational at DaSilva Memorial Field.
The next week, the Johnnies will split up in three directions. Some athletes will compete in Miami Fla., for the Miami Alumni Invitational, while others will head to the Outdoor Metropolitan Championships at Icahn Stadium in Randall's Island and the Temple Invite in Philadelphia. All three meets will be held on April 5-6.
From April 12-13, the program will regroup for the UConn Invite in Storrs, Conn. Seven athletes recorded personal and season-best results across the two-day meet in 2023.
The team then splits up for one time in the outdoor campaign on April 20, when half of the squad heads back to Connecticut for the Mark Young Invitational which is being hosted by Yale in New Haven, Conn. The other half will trek south to Baton Rouge, La. for the LSU Invite.
St. John's will finish off the month of April in Philadelphia at the Penn Relays, hosted by the UPenn on April 26-27. The Johnnies last participated in the meet back in the 2021-22 season.
The Red Storm will conclude its outdoor regular season by hosting the Tom Farrell Classic on May 4 at DaSilva Memorial Field. The program tallied nine wins and 27 top-three finishes across 17 events in 2023.
Five days later, the Johnnies will compete in the Outdoor BIG EAST Championships in Villanova, Pa. on May, 9-11. Last year, McKenzie and Jamora Alves were named the high-point performers of the championship.
Should any Johnnies qualify, the regional round of the NCAA Outdoor Championships will be held from May 22-25 in Lexington, Ky. The NCAA Finals will be held in Eugene, Ore., on June 5-8.
