Softball Announces 2024 Schedule

Red Storm will start play on Feb. 9 in Florida
QUEENS, N.Y. – First-year head coach Michelle DePolo unveiled the St. John's softball schedule for the 2024 season on Thursday.
The Red Storm will play a 54-game schedule with its first 19 contests on the road. The Johnnies will have 15 home games at Red Storm Field beginning in early March.
Additional game times and broadcast information will be released at a later date. Admission to home games at Red Storm Field is free to all fans.
The 2024 campaign will open in Clearwater, Fla. at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, when the squad will play five games in three days. The season will begin against Liberty on Feb. 9, who reached NCAA Regionals last season. Later that day, the Red Storm will meet Kansas for the first time in program history. The following day, the team will square off against Central Arkansas and South Alabama. St. John's will close out the tournament in the Sunshine State, when it faces NC State on Feb. 11. The Red Storm and Wolfpack last met in 2012 and this will mark their fifth all-time meeting.
A week later, the team will head to South Carolina to take part in Charleston Southern's Blue/Gold Classic on Feb. 16-18. Over the three days, the Red Storm will play UMass Lowell three times and Charleston Southern twice.
For the first time since the 2020 season, St. John's will head west for nine games in California over spring break. The team will travel north of Los Angeles for a date on Feb. 25 with UC Santa Barbara, whom the Red Storm last met in 2008 and battled to a 6-4 win. A quick trip down the Pacific coastline is next on the schedule for a doubleheader against UC San Diego on Feb. 27. The following day, the squad will clash against UC Riverside at Amy S. Harrison Softball Field. In the all-time series, the Highlanders and Johnnies are even at 2-2 and split a doubleheader the last time they met in 2018.
St. John's will wrap up play on the west coast in Riverside, Calif. at the Lancers Invite hosted by Cal Baptist. On March 1-3, the team will once again play five games in three days for their final tournament in the early season. The Johnnies will face Idaho St. and Cal Baptist twice along with Cal Poly once over the weekend.
St. John's will host its BIG EAST opener in Queens on March 8, when it takes on Creighton in a three-game series. Last season, the squad took two of three games in Omaha to clinch the fifth seed in the BIG EAST Tournament.
On March 13, Manhattan will make the short trip to meet St. John's in a midweek tilt.
The eight-game homestand will continue over St. Patrick's Day weekend on March 15-17, for St. John's second conference series against Butler. In last year's BIG EAST Tournament, the Johnnies defeated the Bulldogs in the opening round, 9-6. Wagner will head to Queens for a midweek contest on March 19 to wrap up the Red Storm's first homestand of 2024. St. John's has dominated the all-time series with a 17-4 record over the Seahawks.
On March 22-24, the Red Storm will play its first BIG EAST road series when they travel to Providence for a three-game set. A short trip to New Rochelle, N.Y. is next on the slate for a midweek game against Iona on March 26. The seven-game road trip will conclude with a visit to the Windy City from March 28-30 to face DePaul. The Blue Demons will return All-BIG EAST First Team selections Anna Wohlers and Brooke Johnson.
The Johnnies will venture back to Queens to host Fordham on April 3. In last year's game, the squad took down the Rams, 9-0, in five innings. On April 5, St. John's will host UConn for a three-game series at Red Storm Field. The Huskies sat atop the BIG EAST standings when the season concluded last year with a 19-5 conference record and a 34-15 overall mark.
After the brief homestand, St. John's will play 11 consecutive games away from Queens. The team will first head out to Long Island for a weekday showdown against Stony Brook at University Field. Next up, the Johnnies will head to the home of defending BIG EAST Player of the Year, Tess Cites, to take on Villanova for a trio of games on April 12-14. Another trip east is on the agenda as the squad will play a doubleheader at Hofstra on April 17.

The defending BIG EAST champions Seton Hall come to Queens to complete regular season conference play. St. John's will host the Pirates on April 26-28 at Red Storm Field. On May 1, the regular season will conclude when St. John's heads up to West Point to take on Army in a doubleheader. This will mark the two program's first meeting since 2008 as St. John's holds a 12-1 all-time record against the Black Knights.
The BIG EAST Softball Championships will take place on May 8-11 in Providence. The top six teams in the regular season standings will qualify to compete in the tournament. St. John's made an appearance in last season's tournament, winning their opening-round game against Butler.
DePolo was announced as the 11th head coach in program history on Aug. 1 and brings her wealth of experience to Queens. Most recently, she served as an assistant coach for Florida Gulf Coast and boasts head coaching experience at Tennessee Tech and Army. St. John's returns 18 players and adds four freshmen and one graduate transfer to the 2024 roster.
