St. John’s to Close Out Non-Conference Slate against Hofstra at UBS Arena

Red Storm and Pride to square off at noon on FS1
QUEENS, N.Y. – The Red Storm men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday hosting Hofstra (7-5, 0-0 CAA) at UBS Arena. St. John's (8-4, 1-1 BIG EAST) will look to extend its home win streak to five games with tip-off set for 12 p.m. against the Pride in its first of three games this season in Elmont, N.Y.
FS1 will carry the national telecast with Dave Sims and Tarik Turner on the call. An audio broadcast of the game on the LEARFIELD Red Storm Sports Network with John Minko and Vin Parise will also be available on a variety of platforms including the Varsity Network App, TuneIn Radio, RedStormSports.com and the St. John's Red Storm mobile app. The radio broadcast can also be heard on SiriusXM channel 387 and the SiriusXM App.
St. John's will play its fifth-straight contest inside a different venue when the Johnnies take the floor at UBS Arena on Saturday. Dating back to Dec. 10, the Red Storm has made the rounds competing at Barclays Center, Madison Square Garden, Carnesecca Arena and XL Center in Hartford for its last contest with No. 5/5 Connecticut. The Johnnies won both of its home contests during this stretch earning a 22-point victory over Fordham on Dec. 16 at MSG before defeating BIG EAST foe Xavier by 15 points on Dec. 20 in Queens.
In their last contest on Dec. 23, the Johnnies battled UConn to the bitter end in a 69-65 setback to the defending national champion. Senior center Joel Soriano led the team with his eighth double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks against the Huskies. St. John's continued its solid play on the defensive end of the floor holding its third-straight opponent below 70 points.
Over the last three games, the Red Storm has ramped up its defensive efforts and has allowed just 63.3 points per contest with opponents shooting just 34.3 percent from the field. St. John's has also locked down on the three-point line, allowing its opponent to shoot just 19.3 percent (11-57 3FG) from distance and averaged only 3.7 3-pointers per game. The Red Storm has also forced 15.7 turnovers during the 2-1 stretch.
On Saturday, the Johnnies will make just their second appearance inside UBS Arena, home of the New York Islanders. St. John's faced off with Kansas in first-ever basketball game inside the state-of-the-art venue on Dec. 3, 2021, falling to the eventual national champions, 95-75. Julian Champagnie scored 20 of his 24 points in the final 20 minutes of the game, including five straight 3-pointers to open the second frame.

Kennedy recorded 19 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks in the Red Storm's 72-60 routing of the Pride in the Holiday Festival at Madison Square Garden. Dwight Hardy and Justin Brownlee chipped in 17 and 10 points, respectively, off the bench.
Hofstra has dropped three of its last four contests with all three losses coming on the road. The Pride most recently fell at UNLV, 74-56, on Dec. 21 despite a 17-point performance from Darlinstone Dubar. The junior from Charlotte shot 7-for-10 from the field with three 3-pointers.
Through 12 games, the Pride has been one of the most efficient offensive teams in the nation. Hofstra enters the contest eighth in Division I averaging 10.8 3-pointers per contest. The Pride also ranks top-40 in the country shooting 78.1 percent at the line, 56.3 percent from the field and 37.8 percent beyond the arc.
Tyler Thomas leads the Pride and ranks sixth in Division I with 22.1 points per game. The 6-foot-3 guard is second in the nation with 4.1 3-pointers per contest and 13th shooting 94.1 percent at the free-throw line.
