St. John’s Falls to South Alabama, 5-3

The Red Storm’s second game of the day against Northwestern was suspended due to weather
QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 11, 2023) – The St. John's softball team fell to South Alabama in its third game of its Florida trip at Eddie C. Moore Complex. The Red Storm's second game against No. 8 Northwestern was suspended doing to weather, and a decision on the completion of the game has yet to be decided.
Game 1
In the top half of the first a Jaguar double put the first two batters in scoring position, with one scoring on a sacrifice bunt. Ana Serafinko, limited the damage and closed out the inning unscathed.
Serafinko limited the Jaguars to just one hit over the next two innings, before a Jaguar double plated their second run of the game in the fourth inning. In the bottom half, Anese Thompson started the rally with a lead-off single. With Maeve Marra inserted as a pinch-runner, she advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Melanie Santos. Peyton Cody singled, to put the runners on the corners for Serafinko. The pitcher helped her own cause by scoring Marra on a fielder's choice to cut the deficit to 2-1. After a Red Storm walk and fielder's choice to load the bases with two outs, a walk by Sabrina Seaton tied the contest at two all. South Alabama escaped the jam by forcing Sydney Totarsky to ground into a fielder's choice.
After an action-packed fourth inning, the two teams remained tied heading into the sixth inning. South Alabama broke the tie on an RBI-single to left field. Serafinko limited the damage, and the Johnnies trailed by only one heading into the home half of the sixth. Katie Whittaker led off the inning with a single up the middle to ignite the Red Storm. Whittaker was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt down the third base line. Whittaker advance to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by London Jarrard. The Red Storm stranded Jarrard at first, and the contest was tied heading into the last inning.
The Jaguars scored two runs on two hits in the top half of the seventh, and held the Johnnies in the bottom half to secure the victory, 5-3

St. John's will conclude its five-game trip in Florida, with a 10 a.m. contest against Southern at Eddie C. Moore Complex.
