CHICAGO – After rallying back from a 13-point deficit with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation, the St. John's men's basketball team outlasted DePaul in double-overtime, earning a 92-83 victory on Tuesday at Wintrust Arena.
Dylan Addae-Wusu set a career-high with 24 points, including a 3-pointer with 0.5 seconds on the clock to force overtime. Both teams scored four points in the first overtime before the Red Storm outscored the Blue Demons 9-0 in the second session to complete the regular season sweep of DePaul (9-17, 3-12 BIG EAST).
With the victory, St. John's (16-11, 6-10 BIG EAST) improved to 2-0 in overtime games this season, as the Johnnies previously knocked off Syracuse in overtime of the Empire Classic championship game. It was also the first double-overtime game for the Red Storm since a 75-68 win over Butler on Feb. 28, 2018 at Carnesecca Arena.
Addae-Wusu matched his career-high with 11 rebounds for just his second career double-double. Joel Soriano registered his 21st double-double of the season with 21 points and 16 boards. The Johnnies' big man shot 6-for-10 from the field and converted 9-of-10 free-throw attempts.
Facing his former team, David Jones produced the Red Storm's third double-double of the night, totaling 13 points and 13 boards. St. John's freshman AJ Storr reached double figures for the eighth time in 10 games with 14 points and a career-best seven boards to go with three assists. Posh Alexander led all players with seven assists, while recording eight boards and six points on Tuesday.
Addae-Wusu took over in the final 4:18 of regulation, scoring 11 of St. John's final 15 points to help force overtime. Trailing by four with 1:05 to play, Addae-Wusu recorded consecutive layups for the Red Storm, the latter coming on a fastbreak after making a key steal at midcourt to knot the game at 76-76 with 29 seconds on the clock.
With time winding down in regulation, DePaul guard Jalen Terry answered for the Blue Demons with a deep 3-pointer to go back up, 79-76, with 5.0 seconds to go. After St. John's advanced the ball to midcourt with 2.6 seconds remaining, Jones delivered a cross court pass to Addae-Wusu who knocked down the clutch three that forced overtime.
Addae-Wusu hit three key free-throws in the first overtime session, and then the Bronx native buried his third 3-pointer of the game in the second overtime to help seal the road win.
As a team, St. John's shot 21-for-26 (80.8 percent) from the free-throw line and outrebounded DePaul, 62-41.

In the opening half, DePaul jumped out to a nine-point edge, 17-8, as Johnson hit two of his four first half 3-pointers six minutes into the contest. However, St. John's countered over the next six minutes, as Addae-Wusu rattled off five-straight points before a Storr 3-pointer and a Soriano slam capped a 16-7 run to even the game at 24 with 7:56 left in the half.
The Blue Demons answered with another 15-8 run to end the half, taking a 39-32 edge into the break. DePaul center Nick Ongenda scored six of his nine first-half points in the final four minutes of the opening stanza.
St. John's came out firing to start the second half, scoring 10 unanswered points over 2:57 to take its first lead of the game, 42-39. Over the next four minutes, Umoja Gibson answered back for the Blue Demons with a pair of 3-pointers and eight points in total to push DePaul out to a 52-48 advantage at the 12:48 mark.
The Johnnies retaliated tying the game at 52 over a minute later, but a trio of 3-pointers and 11 unanswered points helped DePaul open its largest lead of the game, 69-56, at the 6:49 mark.
Soriano and O'Mar Stanley combined for 14 of the team's next 18 points before Alexander sank a pair of free-throws with 1:20 left to bring the Red Storm to within two, 74-72. Stanley finished with 10 points on a perfect 3-of-3 mark from the floor and a 3-for-4 showing from the line.
