Chen Shines on the Opening Day of the Loyola Intercollegiate

Peicheng Chen finishes the first round 1-under and T-7th
GOODYEAR, Ariz.— Peicheng Chen shined for the St. John's men's golf team in his opening round at the Loyola Intercollegiate in Arizona.
The sophomore finished his round 1-under, 71, and is currently tied for seventh place in the 108-golfer field at Palm Valley Golf Club. Chen flushed four birdie putts, including three on the back nine to finish the opening round below par.
As a team, the Red Storm currently sit in 17th place with a combined team score of `15-over par. Marquette leads after Sunday's action with an overall score of 1-under par.
Tyler Gerbavsits tallied 12 pars and finished second on the team with a 4-over 76 in the opening round.
Jack Simon and Ryan RIttberger each logged a 6-over 78 on Sunday. Simon also stayed consistent finishing with 12 pars.
Gage Wolfle rounded out the Red Storm team score with an 8-over 80 in his initial 18 holes.
St. John's will return the middle round of the tournament on Monday morning. Players are set to tee-off starting at 7:45 PT.
