Red Storm to compete in three-round event at Palm Valley Golf Club in Arizona
QUEENS, N.Y.— The St. John's men's golf team will ready for the three-round 54-hole Loyola Intercollegiate in Goodyear, Ariz., from Feb. 26-28.
The event will take place at the Palm Valley Golf Club, with a shotgun start kicking off play each day at 7:45 a.m. PT. Live stats will be available on GolfStat.com.
The Red Storm will compete in a field of 20 teams from all over the country- including BIG EAST foes Seton Hall, Marquette and the No. 6 ranked team in the nation, Arizona State.
St. John's makes its second appearance of the spring after finishing tied for second at the BIG EAST Match Play Championship earlier this month.
Sophomore Peicheng Chen paced the squad tallying victories in all three of his individual matches at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla. The Beijing, China native recorded a tournament best 4.42 stroke average on par-5's.
Brendan Smith, Jack Simon, Tyler Gerbavsits and Gage Wolfle joined Chen recording individual wins over their three matches against DePaul, Butler and UConn.
The Loyola Intercollegiate marks the first stroke play event of the spring for the Johnnies. The squad captured three team titles in its final three events of the fall slate.
