Diogo Marques Named Men’s Tennis BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week

Marques was 2-0 on the weekend to improve to 6-3 this season
QUEENS, N.Y. – Graduate student Diogo Marques earned his first selection of the season as BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
This week, Marques went a perfect 2-0 in both of his singles matches to improve to 6-3 on the season. On Friday, Marques defeated Georgetown's Kieran Foster, 6-0, 6-1 in the top pairing. On Sunday, Marques finished the weekend without a blemish knocking off Brown's top man, Niraj Kometini, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-1.
Overall this season, all of Marques matches have been played in the top spot. After starting the year 2-3, he is currently on a four-match winning streak, which is tied for the longest on the team. Last fall, he was ranked in the top 120 singles players by ITA.
The Setubal, Portugal native was tabbed to the conference doubles team of the week earlier this season with Axel Vila Antuna on Jan. 30th.
St. John's will be busy next week with a trio of matches. The Johnnies will start the week hosting Villanova on Wednesday. Over the weekend, the Red Storm will travel to Yale on Friday before hosting St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday.
