Women’s Golf in Fourth After Opening Round at BIG EAST Championships

Three Johnnies tie for the team-lead after shooting 9-over on Monday
HARDEEVILLE, S.C.- The St. John's women's golf team wrapped up the first of three rounds at the 2023 BIG EAST Championships and currently sits in fourth place.
The Red Storm shot 39-over, 326, on a tight-knit leaderboard after the first 18 holes at the Riverton Pointe Golf and Country Club on Monday. St. John's (+39), Seton Hall (+38) and Creighton (+40) are all within two strokes of one another.
Xavier takes a lead into the clubhouse with an impressive team score of 16-over for the four-time consecutive conference champions. Georgetown comes in next with a cumulative mark of 29-over. Butler rounds out the standings as the Bulldogs finish the first day in sixth place with a score of 61-over.
A trio of Johnnies- Laia Barro, Jessie Kweon and Cloe Clocchiatti all tied for the team-lead shooting 9-over, 81, and checked in at a deadlock for 10th place. Clocchiatti made par on 10 holes in her opening round while Kweon checked in with nine.
Karen Beglin checked in next for the Red Storm after carding a 12-over, 83, on Monday afternoon.
Amy Kim led the squad with three first round birdies and follows right behind Beglin after posting a 13-over, 84, to take 22nd place.
The second round is scheduled to tee off tomorrow morning. Live results and a stream will be available throughout the entire tournament.
