The freshman earns her first career conference honor
QUEENS, N.Y. – For the first time this season, freshman Jess Bianco was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Bianco logged a brilliant performance in the last week's doubleheader against Sacred Heart. She reached base in all eight of her plate appearances on the day. The outfielder was a combined five-for-five with three walks and swiped seven bases in the pair of games.
On the week, the Cherry Hill, N.J. native hit .778 with a .833 on-base percentage. She was 7-for-9 with two RBIs, and 10 stolen bases in the three Red Storm games last week. In the outfield she recorded a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with two putouts.
Nationally, the freshman ranks in eighth in the nation with 35 total stolen bases. She is tied with UConn's Lexi Hastings at the top of the BIG EAST rankings. The speedster's .78 stolen bases per game is the seventh-best in the country and is tied for the top of the league with Hastings.
The Red Storm will host Stony Brook on Wednesday afternoon before a critical series against Creighton. With at least two wins, St. John's will clinch a berth in the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time since 2019.
