St. John’s Athletic Department Posts Successful Year in the Classroom

11 Red Storm programs post a GPA above 3.5 for the 2022-23 academic year
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's Athletic Department enjoyed another successful year in the classroom during the 2022-23 academic year.
Eleven Red Storm sports programs and two spirit teams logged a grade point average above 3.5 while a cumulative GPA of 3.55 was achieved for all student-athletes at St. John's. The women's golf team had the highest average with an impressive mark of 3.83.
During this past spring semester, 90 percent of the University's student-athletes logged a 3.0 GPA or higher with 59 percent achieving higher than a 3.5. Of those with above a 3.5 mark, 41 student-athletes registered a perfect GPA of 4.0 this last term. In addition, all 17 of St. John's varsity sports programs and all three spirit teams posted a GPA above 3.0 during the spring term.
Four student-athletes – Ariana Robinson (Volleyball), Hannah Mearns (Softball), Angelica Kusnowo (Women's Golf) and Eleonora Tosi (Volleyball) – were inducted into the President's Society, the highest honor society at St. John's University. Members exhibit high levels of scholarship, integrity and leadership. Melanie Dolgonos (Women's Fencing) and Evan Naumann (Band) are outgoing members of these prestigious group.
The Red Storm had four student-athletes earn the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sport Scholars Award, given to student-athletes of color who boast strong academic and athletic achievements. Men's lacrosse senior Danielo Parkinson was named the Sports Scholar of the Year. He was joined by teammate Michael Pisanelli (men's lacrosse), Angelica Kusnowo (women's golf) and Mimi Larry (women's golf).
A total of 84 Johnnies were selected to the National College Athlete Honor Society, Chi Alpha Sigma. Student-athletes must post a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher and be at least a junior in academic standing to be eligible.
In the community, St. John's student-athletes dedicated 3,418 hours to community service through a variety of opportunities.
