Fordham Transfer Maria O’ Sullivan to Join St. John’s for 2023 Campaign

The goalkeeper appeared in nine games, making eight starts in 2022 for the Rams
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's women's soccer Head Coach Ian Stone announced the addition of Fordham transfer Maria O'Sullivan on Friday.
O' Sullivan makes the short cross-borough trip from the Bronx to Queens after spending three seasons with the Rams.
The goaltender appeared in 22 games and made 19 starts between the pipes while at Fordham. Over her three-year career, O' Sullivan posted a goals against average (GAA) of 1.49 and made 63 total stops.
This past season, the Kilnaglory, Ireland native started in net in eight of her nine appearances for the Rams. The junior finished the year with 23 saves, which matched her previous career-best mark. In a road match against Columbia on Sept. 11, O' Sullivan made a season-high six stops in just 45 minutes of action against the Lions. She tallied four or more saves in two additional matches logging five at Stony Brook (Aug. 18) and four against La Salle (Oct. 9).
In 2021, the netminder's season was shortened due to injury but she played in five games getting the nod to start in matches. In an Atlantic-10 battle at Dayton on Oct. 21, O' Sullivan made a career-high eight saves.
During her rookie campaign, she started all eight matches and registered a winning record of 4-3, a career best's .793 save percentage and a 0.76 GAA and set her career-high with 23 saves. In a win over Rhode Island on March 25, O' Sullivan tallied a rare goalkeeper assist in a 2-1 victory over the Rams.
A strong student in the classroom, O' Sullivan has twice been named to the Atlantic-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
On the international, O' Sullivan is a member of the Ireland National Team and competed in the U19 European Championship. Additionally, she made the U15 and U16 Ireland squads.
Prior to Rose Hill, O' Sullivan played four years for Cork City Senior Women's F.C. in the National League, the top flight of women's soccer in Ireland at the time. The goaltender spent four years with the club from 2017-20. She was nominated for National League Player of the Year after earning the league's player of month honor in 2019 and was tabbed as team captain the following year.
Additionally, she played for her high school, Ballincollig, where she served as captain from 2014-19 and received the school's Overall Sports Person Award in her final year.
O' Sullivan is the third transfer to join the Red Storm squad joining Indiana's Jordyn Levy and Sydney Moore of Boston College.
