Longtime Red Storm star inks deal to play in Portugal
QUEENS, N.Y.– Former St. John's guard Kadaja Bailey has inked a contract with Clube Unaio Sportiva in Portugal.
Bailey will join the squad in preparation for the 2023-24 campaign in Ponta Delgada, Portugal and will compete in the EuroCup League.
A local product, Bailey was a standout guard in Queens from 2018-23. Over the course of her career, she cemented herself into the record books ranking first in games played (146), 10th in all-time scoring (1,456) and sixth in career free-throw percentage (78.7). This past season, Bailey became the longest tenured player in Red Storm men's and women's basketball history.
The guard burst onto the scene during her rookie campaign and earned All-BIG EAST Freshman Team recognition and made herself a staple in the starting line-up for Head Coach Joe Tartamella. The following four years after her freshman campaign, Bailey started 89 of 116 possible contests for the Johnnies.
During her final season, Bailey made the most of it guiding the Red Storm to an NCAA Tournament victory and was an All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention selection and was named to the All-MET Second Team and All-BIG EAST Preseason Team.
The guard ranked second on the team averaging 12.9 points per game, finishing in double-figures in 25 of 32 games. An impressive free-throw shooter, Bailey shot 82.0 percent from the charity stripe, which ranked sixth in the BIG EAST and eighth all-time in St. John's history.
Bailey joins backcourt teammate Jayla Everett as the second Red Storm player to sign a professional contract this off-season. Everett inked a deal with Elfic Fribourg in Switzerland.
