St. John’s Finishes Eighth at Macdonald Cup

Peicheng Chen tallies a top-10 finish
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The St. John's men's golf team battled through rainy and windy conditions and recorded an eighth place finish at the Macdonald Cup at the Yale Golf Course this weekend.
The Red Storm checked in eighth place in the 12-team field after shooting a 51-over, 891, over three rounds at Yale Golf Course.
The Johnnies played well on the par-5's recording a 5.10 stroke average, which ranked third-best in the tournament.
Peicheng Chen, who won medalist honors at this event in 2022, finished inside the top-10 after shooting a 6-over, 216. In Sunday's final round the junior fired an even par, 70, the best round by a Red Storm player this weekend. The Beijing, China native recorded par on 39 of 54 holes.
Freshman Thomas Finn registered a top-15 finish in just his second collegiate tournament. The rookie was consistent shooting 3-over or better in all three rounds and finished with an 8-over, 218, good for t-13th place in New Haven, Conn.
David Mlynek tallied an eagle in the first round on the par-4 third hole, the first by a Johnnie this season.
The men's golf team will be back in action starting Oct.1 for the three-day UConn Invitational at Greathorse in Hampden, Mass.
