St. John’s to Travel to No. 16 Creighton for First BIG EAST Road Contest

The Red Storm will look for its first victory over the Blue Jays since 2021
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's volleyball team will travel to Omaha, Neb. to take on Creighton for its first BIG EAST road matchup.
The No. 16 Blue Jays will host the Johnnies on Friday at 7 p.m. at D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha, Neb. The match will be broadcast on FloSports with live stats available on GoCreighton.com
Friday's contest marks the 20th all-time meeting between Creighton and the Red Storm. The Blue Jays have dominated the all-time series, leading it 16-3, including an 8-1 advantage at D.J. Sokol Arena.
The last meeting between the two schools was on Nov. 11, 2022, in Omaha, where Creighton took down St. John's in straight sets. Rachele Rastelli posted 12 kills in the loss. Creighton took the first meeting in 2022 in straight sets as well, at Carnesecca Arena.
The Red Storm haven't beaten Creighton since Oct. 1, 2021, when they upset the Blue Jays, 3-1 in Queens.
On Wednesday afternoon, St. John's took down Seton Hall in four sets, 3-1 to start BIG EAST play at a perfect 3-0. After dropping the first set, the Johnnies stormed back, taking the next three. The match marked the first loss for Seton Hall after they won a first set this season.
The Red Storm's 3-0 start to BIG EAST play is its best conference start since 2012, when they took down Georgetown, Villanova and UConn.
Erin Jones and Lucrezia Lodi each notched a double-double on Wednesday. Jones recorded 10 kills and 18 assists while Lodi posted 10 kills and 12 digs.
Rashanny Solano Smith was named the BIG EAST Freshman of The Week after posting 28 total digs at 4.67 per set last weekend. Her 4.67 digs per set was the third-best in the conference last weekend. She currently leads the Johnnies in digs with 204.
Ludovica Zola was tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after posting 17 kills at a conference-high, 63 percent clip across its opening weekend. Zola also tacked on eight total blocks paired with two assists and a dig.
The Blue Jays check in at No. 16 on the latest AVCA top-25 poll, marking the second ranked opponent the Red Storm will face this season. Creighton had a 1-1 weekend to kick off BIG EAST play, taking down Butler in straight sets, but falling to Xavier, 3-2.
Creighton features a menacing duo of hitters in Ava Martin and Kiana Schmitt. Martin is the kill leader for Creighton, leading the team and the conference with 208 at 4.16 per set.
Schmitt follows right behind Martin with 132 kills. She is currently hitting at a 33.9 percent clip on the season. Schmitt has also posted a team-high 47 blocks.
Kendra Wait leads the team in helpers, racking up 505 total assists at 10.10 per set, which is the second-best in the BIG EAST.
