St. John’s to Battle Central Connecticut State on Labor Day

Red Storm cruised past the Blue Devils last year, 3-0
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's soccer team will take the pitch for a Labor Day contest at Central Connecticut State.
The match will kick-off at 4 p.m. from the CCSU Soccer Stadium in New Britain, Conn.
The Red Storm ended the month of August with an undefeated record going 3-0-1 to start the 2023 season.
On Thursday night, The Johnnies moved past Penn on Thursday night after a 1-0 win at Belson Stadium. Jessica Garziano provided the game-winner in the 35th minute capitalizing on a combination play with Nicole Gordon.
Garziano has been excellent to start the campaign and leads the team with seven points after posting two goals and three assists.
For the first time since the 2015, St. John's has yet to allow a goal through four games. The Red Storm are one of seven teams in the country that have yet to concede a goal and boast 0.00 goals allowed average (GAA).
Graduate transfer Maria O' Sullivan has made an instant impact coming over from Fordham. The goaltender is one of eight goaltenders in NCAA Division I to log four clean sheets on the year.
Central Connecticut State comes into Monday's match with a 1-2-1 record on the 2023 campaign. Most recently, the Blue Devils played to a 1-1 draw against Holy Cross on Thursday. Giavanna Inzerillo has been leading the way for CCSU. The forward currently ranks T-18th in the country averaging 1.00 goals per game and has twice been named NEC Offensive Player of the Week. The Blue Devils were picked as the favorites in the NEC Preseason Poll.
Monday's meeting marks the seventh all-time between the two schools, St. John's leads the all-time series, 6-0. Last year, the Red Storm blanked the Blue Devils, 3-0, on Sept. 4. Ava Collins led the Johnnies attack in the convincing win recording a brace. Kayla Mesaros also tallied a goal
Following Monday's match, St. John's will play four straight matches at home starting with Lehigh on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m.
