Red Storm to make its second national appearance on FOX in as many weekends, facing the Bluejays at 1 p.m. ET in Omaha
QUEENS, N.Y. – Off to its best start since the 2000-01 season, the St. John's men's basketball (12-4, 4-1) team will carry a four-game winning streak to Omaha for a matchup with No. 22/20 Creighton (12-4, 3-2) on Saturday. FOX will carry the BIG EAST showdown from CHI Health Center Omaha with tip-off slated for 1 p.m.
FOX Sports announcer Brandon Gaudin and Nick Bahe will call the action for the national broadcast. An audio broadcast of the game on the LEARFIELD Red Storm Sports Network with John Minko and Vin Parise will also be available on a variety of platforms including the Varsity Network App, TuneIn Radio, RedStormSports.com and the St. John's Red Storm mobile app. The radio broadcast can also be heard on SiriusXM channel 388 and the SiriusXM App.
St. John's enters its matchup with the Bluejays coming off a 75-73 victory over Providence at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday. Graduate students Daniss Jenkins and Joel Soriano propelled the Johnnies past the Friars with 16-point performances apiece, while a late-game offensive rebound and free throw from RJ Luis Jr. helped St. John's seal the victory. The UMass transfer finished with 12 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
Over their four-game win streak, the Johnnies have been highly efficient defending the 3-point line, holding the opposition to 26.7 percent (27-101 3FG) from distance. Offensively, St. John's has averaged 80.8 points per game, shooting 48.0 percent from the field with four players averaging double figures. Jenkins has led the team during this stretch with 18.0 points and 7.0 assists per game.
On Saturday, the Johnnies will try for their fourth-straight BIG EAST victory and first win over a ranked opponent on the road since defeating then-No. 6/7 Connecticut on Jan. 15, 2023, in Hartford. St. John's also aims for its second win in 13 trips all-time to Creighton.
The Red Storm and Bluejays will meet for the 28th time in a series that dates back to 1961. Creighton has won seven of the last eight contest. St. John's looks for its first win in Omaha since Jan. 30, 2019, when the Johnnies took down the Bluejays, 83-67. The Red Storm hit 13 3-pointers while Shamorie Ponds recorded 26 points, eight rebounds and six steals in the win.
Creighton has won three-straight contests and is coming off an 84-58 victory at DePaul on Tuesday. Baylor Scheierman and Ryan Kalkbrenner led the Bluejays with 20 points apiece while Trey Alexander added 17 points.
The Bluejays return to CHI Health Center Omaha for their first home game since defeating Providence, 69-60, on Jan. 6. Creighton owns a 7-1 record in home games this season, including a 1-1 mark against BIG EAST opponents. Prior to defeating the Friars, Creighton dropped a 68-66 decision in overtime to Villanova on Dec. 20.
After its visit to Omaha, St. John's will wrap up a two-game road stretch on Tuesday against Seton Hall. The Johnnies will then return home to Madison Square Garden on Jan. 20 for a meeting with Marquette.
