The Red Storm is undefeated with a 9-0 record at home
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's volleyball team is set to welcome RV Marquette and No. 6 Creighton to Queens this weekend.
The Red Storm will welcome Marquette to Carnesecca Arena on Friday at 7 p.m. for its annual Pink Match, before hosting Creighton on Saturday at 5 p.m. Friday's match will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports while the Johnnies contest on Saturday will be shown on ESPN+. Live stats for both matches will be available on RedStormSports.com.
St. John's returns to Carnesecca Arena to defend its undefeated 9-0 home record after falling at both Xavier and DePaul in straight sets, 3-0, last weekend. The Red Storm holds a 9-0 home mark for the first time since the 2007 season.
Erin Jones was tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the fourth time this season, after posting 23 kills, 21 assists, 16 digs and four total blocks against Xavier and DePaul. Jones leads the Johnnies and ranks eighth in points (305) and 10th in kills (259), nationally.
Jones secured her second triple-double of the season against Xavier last Friday. The right-side hitter led St. John's with 13 kills on a 31.2 hitting clip to go along with 11 assists and 10 digs. She is one of 11 players in NCAA Division I to notch two or more triple-doubles this season.
The Albuquerque, N.M. native followed up her impressive showing with the ninth double-double of her season against DePaul. The standout logged 10 kills and 10 helpers to go along with six digs and a block assist against the Blue Demons.
Wiktoria Kowalczyk continued her strong senior season last week, leading the Red Storm in assists against Xavier (27) and DePaul (20). The setter has led St. John's in helpers in 17 of its 18 matches, so far this season.
Kowalczyk leads the BIG EAST and ranks 10th in the country in total assists with 640. The senior's 9.85 helpers per set sit fifth in the conference and 55th nationally.
The Red Storm will host Marquette for the 33rd meeting in the all-time series on Friday before welcoming Creighton for the 23rd match between the two teams on Saturday. The Bluejays will be the highest ranked opponent to come to Carnesecca Arena since No. 11 Marquette in 2019.
Last season, The Red Storm went 2-1 against the Golden Eagles, taking down Marquette in Carnesecca Arena and in the BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals, 3-2.
The Golden Eagles come into Friday's matchup 3-1 in BIG EAST play and 7-6 overall. The team was receiving votes in the latest AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll. Yadhira Anchante sits third in the BIG EAST in assists per set, averaging 10.13. In total, she has racked up 466 helpers to go along with a team-leading 148 digs. Middle Blocker Carsen Murray leads the BIG EAST with a 40.6 hitting percentage.
Creighton heads to Queens ranked No. 6 in the country with a perfect 4-0 conference record and an overall 13-2 mark. Norah Sis and Ava Martin are the top hitters on the Bluejays. Sis ranks third in the BIG EAST averaging 3.88 kills per set while Martin ranks seventh with 3.31 slams per set. Kiara Reinhardt and Elise Goetzinger are the top two block leaders in the conference. Reinhardt ranks first with 70 blocks at 1.37 per set and Goetzinger is second with 63 rejections at 1.21 per frame.
St. John's will head to New England next weekend when it takes on Providence on Oct. 18 and UConn on Oct. 19.
