Red Storm to compete from Oct. 17-21 in Philadelphia
QUEENS, N.Y. – Eight members of the St. John's men's tennis team will venture to Philadelphia this weekend for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regionals, beginning on Thursday.
The Johnnies will compete in both singles and doubles action at the Hecht Tennis Center, beginning on Thursday.
Reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Armando Sotelo will be joined by Ryota Kaneda, Danilo Raicevic, Ignacio Vinas, Adam Groves, Marco Cinotti and Leonardo Mileikowski in the main draw of singles competition.
The Red Storm will also send four doubles squads to the City of Brotherly Love. After winning 11 matches as a duo last spring, Kaneda and Adam will team up, as will Carl Gustavsson and Raicevic. Sotelo and Max Amling will pair up together while Mileikowsky will compete alongside Vinas.
The five-day event features players from schools in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
At last year's regionals, Gustavsson and Kaneda each advanced to the round of 16 in singles play, totaling five victories.
St. John's opened its fall schedule last month at the Hofstra Invite, totaling 26 wins across three days of competition against student-athletes from Hofstra, Drexel, and Queens College in Hempstead, N.Y.
Following regionals this weekend, the Red Storm will continue its fall slate on Oct. 25-27 at the Binghamton Invite in Vestal, N.Y.
