The Red Storm have won three out of its last four matches
QUEENS, N.Y. – Coming off a dominant straight-set sweep over Butler, 3-0, the St. John's volleyball team will head to No. 6 Creighton and RV Marquette this weekend.
The Red Storm will head to Omaha, Neb., on Friday for a 7 p.m. contest against Creighton, before heading to Milwaukee for a date with Marquette on Sunday at 2 p.m. Friday's match will be streamed on Nebraska Public Media while Saturday's battle can be seen on FloSports. The Johnnies enjoyed an undefeated 2-0 week after besting Villanova in a five-set thriller, 3-2, and taking down Butler in straight sets, 3-0. With the pair of wins, St. John's now holds a 16-8 overall record and is sitting at .500 in the BIG EAST with a 5-5 mark.
Lucrezia Lodi was tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the first time this season after a pair of impressive showings last week against the Wildcats and the Bulldogs. The San Lazzaro di Savena, Italy native conducted the Red Storm's offense, logging 33 kills at 4.12 slams per set. The talented junior also totaled 12 digs, two blocks and two aces.
The outside hitter matched her career-high and led the contest with 24 kills to go along with six digs, two blocks and two aces in the Johnnies' win over Villanova. She followed up her showing by pounding nine kills at a 36.4 percent hitting rate to go along with six digs against Butler.
Wiktoria Kowalczyk impressed last week, racking up 64 assists, 21 digs and two double-doubles. Against Villanova, the talented setter registered a match-best 32 helpers and 11 digs across five sets. She went on to notch her fourth double-double of the season on 32 helpers and 10 digs to go along with two rejections against the Bulldogs, last Friday.
The Poland product has totaled 811 total assists at 9.22 per set so far this season. Kowalczyk's 811 helpers rank 29th nationally, as of Oct. 30.
St. John's will travel to Omaha, Neb., for the 24th meeting in its all-time series with Creighton before heading to Milwaukee for the 34th meeting with Marquette. The Red Storm fell in both of its first bouts with the Bluejays and the Golden Eagles this season.
Creighton hosts St. John's ranked sixth in the nation with an undefeated 10-0 BIG EAST mark and a 19-2 overall record. Norah Sis and Ava Martin are the top hitters on the Bluejays. Sis ranks third in the league averaging 3.75 kills per set while Martin ranks fifth with 3.46 kills per set. Reigning BIG EAST Player of the Year Kendra Wait has dominated this season, leading the BIG EAST and the Bluejays with 11.09 assists per set.
Marquette welcomes the Johnnies with a 9-1 BIG EAST record and is 15-6 overall. The team is receiving votes in the latest AVCA Top-25 Poll. Yadhira Anchante sits third in the conference in assists per set, averaging 10.24. In total, she has racked up 768 helpers to go along with a team-leading 245 digs. Middle Blocker Carsen Murray leads the BIG EAST with a 38.8 hitting percentage. The graduate student has recorded 143 kills and 61 blocks.
St. John's will return to Carnesecca Arena next weekend for a pair of matches against DePaul and Xavier on Nov. 8 and Nov. 9.
