QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team will head to Philadelphia for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regionals.
The six-day event will begin Thursday at the Hect Tennis Center on the campus of UPenn and will run through Tuesday
The tournament is comprised of a singles field of 64, preceded by a qualifying round, and a doubles bracket of 32 duos. The two singles finalists and doubles champions will qualify for the NCAA Championships.
For the Johnnies, Victoria Papadopoulou, Alexandra Nielsen and Noemi Babikova have already guaranteed themselves a spot in the main singles draw. Alicia Gomez, Charlotta Buss, Nicoline Sartz-Lunde and Sandra Dzhambazov will begin their runs in the qualifying round. All seven student-athletes, along with Giulia Bizzari will participate in the doubles competition.
Last season, the Johnnies sent four athletes to Regionals at Columbia University. Papadopoulou picked up a victory in singles action while then-graduate student and 2024 All-BIG EAST First Team Selection Mouna Bouzgarrou advanced to the round of 16.
The Johnnies are coming off a successful weekend at the Fordham Fall Invitational, winning seven matches in the Bronx. The Red Storm has 17 total victories through two competitions this fall.
Following Regionals this weekend, St. John's will wrap up its fall season at the UB Invite in Western, N.Y. on Nov. 1-3.
