St. John’s to Battle for BIG EAST East Division Title on Senior Day Against No. 18 Georgetown

The Red Storm can clinch division title and No. 2 seed in postseason with a win and a Providence loss or draw
QUEENS, N.Y. (Nov. 1, 2024) – Unbeaten in its last four matches, the St. John's men's soccer team will look to secure its first BIG EAST East Championship when it welcomes No. 18 Georgetown for Senior Day on Saturday.
Kick-off from Belson Stadium is slated for 2 p.m. Saturday's match will be streamed on BIG EAST Digital Network, powered by FloFC, and live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com. The first 150 students in attendance will receive a free egg sandwich or bagel with cream cheese from Utopia Bagels, courtesy of RedZone.
The Red Storm (6-5-5, 4-1-2 BIG EAST) will honor eight student-athletes – Macoumba Ba, Antonio Biggs, Eric Danquah, Nigel Griffith, Justin Kopay, Thomas Lamaille, Godwin Partey and Emmanuel Smalios – during a pre-game celebration slated to begin at 1:40 p.m.
Fresh off a 1-1 draw against UConn last Saturday, the Johnnies utilized a 77th-minute equalizer from Biggs, the reigning BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. The Kingston, Jamaica native headed home a set-piece cross from Julian Jakopovic to clinch home-field advantage in the next week's postseason quarterfinal.
St. John's will make its 31st appearance in the BIG EAST Soccer Championship when it hosts its quarterfinal matchup for the second-straight season on Saturday, Nov. 9. The Red Storm can clinch the outright division championship and the No. 2 seed with a win on Saturday and a Providence loss or draw. The Johnnies cannot finish lower than fourth in seeding.
Saturday's matchup will mark the 42nd all-time meeting between the two programs with St. John's holding a 24-13-4 advantage overall and a 12-4-2 mark at home. The Johnnies will look to make it three straight unbeaten matches against Georgetown after working to a 1-1 draw against the then-No. 8 team in the nation at Shaw Field last season. Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau provided the equalizer in the 17th minute to earn a point for the Red Storm on Oct. 21, 2023. St. John's also took down the Hoyas in its last meeting at Belson Stadium, earning a 3-1 victory on Sept. 16, 2022, behind goals from Griffith, Brandon Knapp and Antek Sienkiel.

Georgetown powered past DePaul, 4-0, in its most recent match with four different goal scorers in the contest. Zach Zengue logged three assists against the Blue Demons, the most in a BIG EAST game this season.
Goalkeeper Tenzing Manske registered his conference-leading seventh clean sheet following last week's win, good for 6th in NCAA Division I. His .505 goals against average is also among the best in the nation, sitting second overall.
Over its last four matches, Georgetown has outscored its opponents, 10-3, while producing 21.8 shots per game.
