The Red Storm men’s basketball team will play its first game as a nationally ranked team in five years
QUEENS, N.Y. – Coming off a 2-0 week with wins over Fordham and Quinnipiac, the No. 22/25 St. John's men's basketball team will square off with Wagner inside Carnesecca Arena on Wednesday. Tip-off from Queens is slated for 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday's contest will be broadcasted live on FS2 with Emmanuel Berbari and Kris Jenkins, a former BIG EAST star and National Champion at Villanova, on the call for the 22nd overall meeting between the Red Storm and Seahawks.
An audio broadcast of the game on the LEARFIELD Red Storm Sports Network with John Minko and Vin Parise will also be available on a variety of platforms including the Varsity Network App, TuneIn Radio, RedStormSports.com and the St. John's Red Storm mobile app. The radio broadcast can also be heard on SiriusXM channel 380 or via the SiriusXM App.
The Red Storm broke into the Associated Press Top 25 with the No. 22 distinction in the latest poll on Monday. The Johnnies earned a top-25 ranking for the first time since the 2018-19 season. The No. 22 ranking is St. John's highest since checking in at No. 15 on Dec. 29, 2014. The team also earned a spot on the USA Today Coaches Poll, rounding the top 25 in the rankings.
St. John's (2-0) secured its seventh-straight victory inside the friendly confines of Carnesecca Arena following a 96-73 against Quinnipiac on Saturday. With the victory, the Johnnies have won 32 straight non-conference games inside Carnesecca Arena dating back to a loss against Vermont on Nov. 16, 2019. The 32-game win streak against out-of-conference opponents in Queens is the second longest since setting the program record with 62 wins from Nov. 28, 1981 to Nov. 18, 1993.
Junior wing RJ Luis Jr. helped propel the Red Storm to victory with a 24-point, 13-rebound double-double against the Bobcats. The Miami product registered 16 points and nine boards in the final 20 minutes alone, helping the Johnnies to a 61-point showing in the second half. The Johnnies' 61 points in the latter stanza were the most in a half since Dec. 3, 2000, when it tallied 61 in a 97-83 victory against Michigan.
Brady Dunlap also shined against Quinnipiac going for a career-high 20 points on 5-of-7 shooting from distance. Deivon Smith became the first Red Storm player since Justin Simon on Dec. 31, 2017, to finish with 10-plus points (13), 10-plus assists (10), five-plus rebounds (5) and three-plus steals (3) in a single-game.
Wednesday's contest will mark the 22nd all-time meeting between the two programs with St. John's holding a 19-2 record against Wagner. The Red Storm has also won is last 12 contests against the Seahawks, including an 86-63 victory in their last matchup on Nov. 30, 2019. Mustapha Heron led four Johnnies in double figures with 18 points in 16 minutes of action.
Wagner (1-1) is coming off a 94-52 win over Manor College. Senior Ja'Kair Sanchez led five Seahawks in double figures with 17 points. Fellow classmate Tyje Kelton chipped in 15 points of his own after knocking down five 3-pointers in the victory.

Naismith Hall of Fame Head Coach Rick Pitino will square off with his son, Lobos' Head Coach Richard Pitino, for the fourth time in his career. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. at "The World's Most Famous Arena."
