No. 22/20 St. John’s to Face Virginia in Baha Mar Hoops Championship Consolation Game

The Red Storm men’s basketball team will square off with the Cavaliers for the first time since 2013 on Friday at 7 p.m. on CBS Sports Network
NASSAU, Bahamas – The No. 22/20 St. John's men's basketball team (4-1) will look to bounce back from its one-point, double-overtime setback against No. 13/14 Baylor when it takes on Virginia (3-1) in the Baha Mar Hoops Championship consolation game on Friday.
Tip-off from Baha Mar Convention, Arts & Entertainment Center is scheduled for 7 p.m. CBS Sports Network will carry Friday's live telecast from The Bahamas with Chris Sylvester and Kyle Macy on the call and Sam Hyman reporting from the sidelines.
An audio broadcast of the game on the LEARFIELD Red Storm Sports Network with John Minko and Brian Mahoney will also be available on a variety of platforms including the Varsity Network App, TuneIn Radio, RedStormSports.com and the St. John's Red Storm mobile app. The radio broadcast can also be heard on SiriuxXM radio channel 380 and via the SiriusXM App.
St. John's enters Friday's contest on the heels of a 99-98 double-overtime heartbreaker against the Bears. Junior forward Zuby Ejiofor led five Johnnies in double figures with a career-high 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor. The Garland, Texas native also pulled down 10 rebounds and matched his personal best with five blocks in over 42 minutes of action.
Aaron Scott added 20 points, knocking down five of his six attempts from distance and shot 3-for-4 from the line. RJ Luis Jr. (16 points), Kadary Richmond (14 points) and Deivon Smith (10 points) rounded out the Red Storm players in double figures.
As of Friday, the Red Storm ranks sixth in the nation with 7.4 blocks per contest. Ejiofor leads the team with 15 rejections (3rd in NCAA) while his 3.0 blocks per game is the ninth highest average in the nation.
St. John's also ranks among the national leaders in fastbreak points (19.6 per game, 21st), assists (18.8 per game, 34th) and scoring average (87.4 per game, 40th).
The Red Storm owns a 7-1 all-time record against Virginia in a series that began in 1958. St. John's has won two of three meetings with the Cavaliers in neutral site games and aims for its first win over Virginia since March 24, 2003. Marcus Hatten led St. John's with 30 points in the 73-67 victory to help the Johnnies advance to the 2003 NIT Quarterfinals.
Virginia (3-1) suffered its first loss of the season, 64-42, at the hands of No. 11/9 Tennessee on Thursday in its opening game of the Baha Mar Hoops Championship. The Cavaliers committed 18 turnovers while shooting just 29 percent from the field in the contest.
Isaac McKneely has averaged a team-best 13.0 points this season, shooting 54.8 percent (17-31 FG) from the field. The junior guard from Poca, W. Va., ranks eighth in the nation shooting 60.0 percent (12-20 3FG) from distance.
The Cavaliers stand among the nation's best defensive teams, allowing just 56.3 points per game (11th in NCAA) while holding opponents to a 35.0 field goal percentage (15th in NCAA).
