QUEENS, N.Y. – Fresh off a 32-point win over Fordham on opening night, the St. John's men's basketball team will look to make it seven consecutive victories at Carnesecca Arena, dating back to last season, when it hosts Quinnipiac on Saturday. Tip-off from Queens is slated for 2 p.m. with the live national telecast airing on FS2.
FOX Sports announcers Greg Mescall and Kris Jenkins, a former BIG EAST star and National Champion at Villanova, are on the call for the second all-time meeting between the Red Storm and Bobcats.
An audio broadcast of the game on the LEARFIELD Red Storm Sports Network with John Minko and Brandon Tierney will also be available on a variety of platforms including the Varsity Network App, TuneIn Radio, RedStormSports.com and the St. John's Red Storm mobile app. The radio broadcast can also be heard on the SiriusXM App.
St. John's (1-0) secured its 11th straight season-opening win in dominant fashion with a 92-60 victory over Fordham on Monday. Sophomore guard Simeon Wilcher paced the team with a career-high 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor. Co-captain Kadary Richmond chipped in a 16-point, nine-rebound effort in his official Red Storm debut. RJ Luis Jr. and Aaron Scott logged 12 points apiece, combining to shoot 9-of-15 from the floor. The team scored 30 points off the bench and 23 points on fastbreaks, both the most among BIG EAST schools in their 2024-25 season openers.
Monday's win over the Rams also marked St. John's sixth straight victory inside Carnesecca Arena since the start of the 2023-24 season. Over that span, St. John's has averaged 87.5 points on 49.9 percent shooting (205-411 FG) to go with 43.3 rebounds and 19.2 assists per game. Defensively, the Red Storm has held opponents to 60.8 points while forcing 16.5 turnovers per contest.
The Johnnies will look to extend their win streak to 17 against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) teams when it hosts the league's preseason favorite Quinnipiac. The programs will meet for the first time since Dec. 29, 2001 when St. John's Hall of Famer Marcus Hatten scored 22 points and made five steals in a 97-60 victory at Carnesecca Arena.
Quinnipiac (1-1) returns eight players from last year's squad that won 24 games and earned the MAAC regular season title. Three of the Bobcats top-four scorers from 2023-24 are back in Amarri Monroe (12.9 ppg), Paul Otieno (11.0 ppg) and Savion Lewis (8.1 ppg) who combined for 41 percent of the team's scoring. Monroe, a 6-foot-7 forward, was named the Preseason MAAC Player of the Year.
The Bobcats enter Saturday's matchup coming off a 71-47 victory over Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Thursday. Otieno led the Bobcats with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Quinnipiac dropped its season opener at Yale, 88-62, on Nov. 4, despite a 23 point performance from Monroe.
Following Saturday's tilt, St. John's will host Wagner on Wednesday at Carnesecca Arena for a 6:30 p.m. showdown on FS2. The Red Storm holds a 19-2 overall record against the Seahawks, including a 12-game winning streak.
