St. John’s Concludes First Round at Columbia Classic

Xuan Khue Minh Doan shoots even par, sits in eighth place
MELBOURNE, Fla. (Feb. 10, 2024) – The St. John's women's golf team opened its 2024 spring campaign with the first round of the Columbia Classic on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Storm sit in 14th place after the first 18 holes in a tightly contested field at the Duran Golf Club. The Johnnies posted a team score of 19-over, 307, and are separated from sixth place by just seven strokes.
Old Dominion leads the field after shooting 1-over, 289 as a group in the Sunshine State. The Monarchs' Lucia Gonzalez is tied for the individual lead with Yale's Alexis Kim at 4-under, 68.
Xuan Khue Minh Doan, who led St. John's in all four events in the fall logged a strong round in Florida. The sophomore shot an even par 72 and is tied for eighth place in the 90-golfer field. The Wofford transfer recorded four birdies in Melbourne, Fla. And sits just four shots off the individual lead.
Kelly Wu also had a solid day shooting a 3-over, 75 to place second on the team and inside the top-30 overall. The Western Illinois transfer tallied three birdies including back-to-back on the 15th and 16th hole to enter the clubhouse tied for 28th place.
Karen Beglin shot 7-over 79, while Cloe Clocchiatti and individual competitor Angelica Kusnowo both turned in a 9-over, 81 to round out the Red Storm line-up.
