St. John’s to Take on No. 11/10 UConn on CBS Sports Network

Red Storm will meet the Huskies at Gampel Pavilion at 3 p.m. on Sunday
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's basketball team will head to Gampel Pavilion to face No. 11/10 UConn on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.
Sunday's national telecast will air on CBS Sports Network with John Sadak and Julianne Viani on the call from Storrs. Conn.
The Johnnies will be wearing pink jerseys on Sunday for the first time in five years to help raise awareness in the fight against Breast Cancer and for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. To learn more about the organization, visit their website.
St. John's (14-9, 8-3 BIG EAST) has built up a three-game winning streak after Wednesday night's 67-55 victory over Xavier at Carnesecca Arena. The Red Storm moved to 8-3 in the BIG EAST for the second year in a row, marking the first time the Johnnies have won their first eight out of 11 in league play in back-to-back seasons since the 1984-85 and 1985-86 campaigns. Looking at the conference standings, the Red Storm sit in sole possession of third place heading into Sunday's contest.
The Johnnies pulled away from the Musketeers on Wednesday night outscoring them 21-11 in the final quarter to earn a double-digit win and advance to 8-1 at Carnesecca Arena this season.
St. John's shot 15-for-19 from charity stripe to aid in the season sweep of Xavier, including going 11-of-12 in the final quarter to run away for its 18th-straight victory over the Musketeers.
Unique Drake went off for 24 points, including 16 in the second half. The team's leading scorer made 10 field goals marking the eighth time this season she has tallied double-digit made field goals. The Columbia, S.C., native is averaging 26.0 points over her last three appearances and was named the Metropolitan Basketball Writers' Association Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Jillian Archer has been reliable in the frontcourt for the Johnnies. The graduate student has started all 23 games and is averaging 11.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. The forward nearly tallied another double-double on Wednesday night recording 17 points and nine boards.
Skye Owen dished out eight assists in the win over the Musketeers, a career-high and the most by a Red Storm player since Kadaja Bailey logged eight against Xavier on March 5, 2021. Backcourt mate Ber'Nyah Mayo has enjoyed a strong stretch. The UMass transfer is averaging 14.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists over her last four games.
In its last visit to UConn (18-4, 10-0 BIG EAST), St. John's pulled off a monumental upset over the then-No. 4/5 Huskies, 69-64, on Feb. 21, 2023. Bailey and Danielle Patterson each went for a game-high 20 points as the Johnnies fought off a late UConn surge to take down the perennial power for the first time in over a decade.
The Red Storm will play at Gampel Pavilion, the on-campus home of the Huskies, for the first time since Feb. 3, 2021. The previous meeting in the arena before then took place nine years earlier on Feb. 18, 2012. Current Assistant Coach and former Red Storm standout Shenneika Smith buried the game-winning 3-pointer with eight seconds to play. The shot propelled the Johnnies to a 57-56 victory and snapped the Huskies 99-game home winning streak at Gampel.
