Since beginning St. John's Basketball Legends Series Bobblehead giveaway games in 2009, the Johnnies have gone 13-1 in those contests.
St. John's will make its second appearance of the season on its home court inside UBS Arena, home of the NHL's New York Islanders, on Tuesday. The Red Storm previously secured an 84-79 victory over Hofstra in their first appearance at the state-of-the-art venue on Dec. 30, 2023. Daniss Jenkins nearly recorded a triple-double for the Red Storm, finishing with 21 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in the win over the Pride.
Over the last five games, Jenkins has elevated his production averaging 17.2 points, shooting 47.7 percent (31-65 FG) from the field to go with 5.6 assists and a 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio. The 6-foot-4 point guard has also knocked down 11 3-pointers in the last five contests, while converting on 58.8 percent (20-34 FG) of his field goal attempts inside the arc.
St. John's and DePaul will meet for the 54th time in program history with the Johnnies holding a 31-22 edge in the series. The Red Storm looks to earn its fourth-straight win over the Blue Demons with a victory on Tuesday. The Johnnies swept the season series last year with an 86-67 victory in Queens (Dec. 7, 2022) followed by a 93-82 double-overtime thriller at Wintrust Arena (Feb. 14, 2023). Joel Soriano averaged 19.0 points and 15.0 rebounds against the Blue Demons in those two games last season.
DePaul enters Tuesday's contest on a 10-game slide. The Blue Demons are also in search for their first BIG EAST victory of the season and first win since topping Chicago State, 70-58, on Dec. 30 at Wintrust Arena.
Chico Carter, Jr. leads the Blue Demons averaging 11.8 points this season. The graduate student from Columbia, S.C., also ranks eighth in the BIG EAST with a 1.9 assist-to-turnover ratio. Carter has started all 17 appearances, but has not played in a game since suffering an injury at Providence on Jan. 17.
