Jordan Dingle and Daniss Jenkins score 14 points to lead the Red Storm on Tuesday at UBS Arena
ELMONT, N.Y. – Daniss Jenkins and Jordan Dingle scored 14 points apiece to help lead the Red Storm men's basketball team to an 85-57 victory over DePaul at UBS Arena.
The Johnnies buried 15 3-pointers on Tuesday, which set a program record for most threes against a BIG EAST opponent. Jenkins and Dingle each hit four triples apiece while freshmen Brady Dunlap and Simeon Wilcher each connected with a pair from distance.
Red Storm center Joel Soriano finished with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Chris Ledlum grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds to go with six points, three assists, two steals and a block. Fellow graduate students Nahiem Alleyne and Sean Conway gave St. John's a boost off the bench with nine points apiece.
As a team, St. John's scored 22 second-chance points and recorded 26 points off of turnovers. The Johnnies also handed out 20 assists on 29 made field goals with Dingle and Conway leading the way with four each.
St. John's (14-9, 6-6) led from start to finish and went up by as many as 30 points late in the second half. The Johnnies jumped out to a double-digit lead less than six minutes into the game. Dingle capped an 11-0 run with a 3-pointer that sent St. John's out to a 16-4 advantage with 14:06 on the clock.
After DePaul (3-20, 0-12) managed to cut the Red Storm deficit down to six, Glenn Taylor Jr., Conway and Alleyne gave the Johnnies a boost off the bench by scoring 12 of the team's next 14 points to open a comfortable 15-point cushion. Taylor began the spurt with a three before Conway scored the next five points in 27 seconds, followed by a pair of buckets from Alleyne put the team up 33-17 at 7:01.
St. John's carried a 38-29 advantage into the break, closing the half with Dingle's third 3-pointer of the stanza before Soriano scored the final basket on the interior.
The Red Storm locked in defensively in the early going of the second half, holding DePaul without a field goal through the opening six minutes. Jenkins and Dunlap helped build the Red Storm's lead to 26 at the 11:10 mark as both knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to power a 13-0 run midway through the frame. St. John's did not allow its advantage to dip below 20 the rest of the way.
De'Sean Nelson led the Blue Demons with 11 points while Jalen Terry chipped in 10 points of his own.
The Red Storm will open its two-game road trip in Milwaukee, Wis., taking on No. 7/7 Marquette inside Fiserv Forum on Saturday. FS1 will carry the national broadcast with tip-off slated for 6 p.m. ET.
