Leon Petko and Ignacio Vinas Named BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week

The Red Storm duo won both doubles matches they played this week
Ignacio Vinas and Leon Petko of the St. John's men's tennis team have been named the BIG EAST Men's Double Team of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
The duo went 2-0 in doubles play this week, helping the Red Storm to wins over Rider and Dartmouth.
This marks the second consecutive week the Johnnies have received a weekly award from the conference after Carl Gustavsson was named BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week last Monday.
Against Rider on Thursday, Petko and Vinas were placed on the No. 2 doubles court and earned a 6-4 victory over Alejandro Casteneda and Oliver Thony. Two days later, the pair were vital in helping the Johnnies earn a 4-3 win on the road against Dartmouth, defeating Carlos Guerrero and Hikaru Takeda, 6-4.
With the two wins this week, Vinas and Petko improved to 4-0 on the doubles court this season. The four wins are the most by any duo this season for St. John's.
After its wins over Rider and Dartmouth this weekend, the Red Storm improved to 5-1 on the season. St. John's will return home for a pair of matches this weekend. On Feb. 8, Hofstra makes the short trip to the USTA National Tennis Center for a 10 a.m. matchup with the Johnnies. Two days later, the Red Storm will face off with Penn State at the Milstein Tennis Center in Manhattan. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
