St. John's senior faceoff specialist Dane Armstrong has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced on Monday.
Armstrong was outstanding at the faceoff 'X' for the Red Storm in its game against Saint Joseph's on Saturday, winning 17-of-25 draws. The 17 wins are a career-high and marks his third-straight game with double-digit faceoff victories. The UMBC transfer started Saturday's game a perfect five-for-five and finished the first half 9-of-13. Armstrong also scooped a career-best 11 groundballs.
On the season, the Hardyston, N.J., product has won 51 of the 92 draws and his 26 groundballs are the most among all Red Storm players. Armstrong scored his first goal in a St. John's uniform on March 9 in the Johnnies' 13-6 win over Binghamton.
Armstrong's honor is the fourth weekly honor roll nod for the Johnnies this season and fifth weekly award. Attackmen Brian Kelly, Adrian Nowak and Bobby Seel have all previously been tabbed to the honor roll while netminder Kyle Munson was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after his 15-save outing against Binghamton. The Red Storm has been featured in the BIG EAST's weekly awards in three consecutive weeks.
The Red Storm will be back in action this Saturday in Syracuse, N.Y., to take on Le Moyne in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Faceoff from Ted Grant Field is set for noon and the game will be streamed on NEC Front Row.
