NEW YORK (March 25, 2024) – Following the St. John's lacrosse team's 9-7 win over Le Moyne on Saturday, goaltender Kyle Munson has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced on Monday.
Munson recorded his fourth-straight game with double-digit stops, making a season-best 16 saves against the Dolphins at Ted Grant Field. The redshirt junior allowed just two goals over the final three quarters and made 14 stops during that stretch.
The Merrick, N.Y., native kept Le Moyne off the scoresheet in both the second and third quarters on Saturday, marking the first time the Red Storm held an opponent scoreless in a period since Feb. 11, 2023, against Manhattan.
On the season, Munson's 11.4 saves per contest leads the BIG EAST and his 51.4 percent save rate is second-best in the conference. In the Red Storm's three wins this season, Munson has stopped 40-of-61 shots faced and has a 65.6 save percentage.
This is the second weekly honor for Munson. The netminder was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on March 11 after his 15-save performance against Binghamton on March 9. The Red Storm has earned six weekly honors from the conference this season.
The Johnnies will be back in action on Saturday to open BIG EAST play in Queens against Marquette. Faceoff from Belson Stadium is set for 11 a.m.
