St. John’s Prepares for BIG EAST Men’s Golf Championships

The Red Storm finished runner-up in last year’s tournament
QUEENS, N.Y.– The St. John's men's golf team is set to compete in the BIG EAST Men's Golf Championships presented by JEEP from April 27-29 in Hardeeville, S.C.
For the second-straight year, the conference tournament will be held at Riverton Pointe Golf Club and the three-day, 54-hole event will commence at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning.
The BIG EAST Championship will be broadcast on GolfKastLive TV, a golf streaming platform that will have coverage of all 18 holes with live commentary on the 18th green. Live results throughout the tournament will be available on GolfStat.
The Red Storm enter as last year's runner-up at the event logging its highest finish since it won its last BIG EAST title in 2014. The Johnnies came down to the wire with Marquette but ultimately finished three strokes behind the Golden Eagles. Jack Simon earned co-medalist honors and emerged from a playoff to claim the individual title to earn a spot in NCAA Regionals.
St. John's will battle for a conference crown against nine of the conference's member schools- Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Seton Hall, UConn, Villanova and Xavier.
This season, Peicheng Chen has led the charge for the squad finish first for the team in seven events. The 2023 All-BIG EAST selection has finished top-5 in two of his last three events. The junior finished runner-up at the Southern Invitational and garnering BIG EAST Golfer of the Week on April 4. In his most recent appearance, the Beijing, China native posted the lowest final round amongst the entire field to tie for fifth place at the competitive Robert Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio. Chen tallied a top-10 finish at last year's BIG EAST Tournament.
Ryan Rittberger, the fifth-year Johnnie has been reliable for the Red Storm throughout his career. The graduate student impressed at Riverton Pointe in 2023 recording a fifth place finish.
A trio of newcomers- David Mlynek, Erik Stevens and Jack Breutsch will round out the line-up for second-year Head Coach Phil Wildermuth.
