LEXINGTON, Ky. – Nora Haugen advanced to the 800-meter run quarterfinal at the NCAA East Regional at the UK Track & Field Complex in Lexington, Ky., on Thursday afternoon.
Haugen breezed through the 800-meter run preliminary round for the Red Storm in her first appearance on the national stage. The track standout broke her own school record of 2:04.77 from the BIG EAST Track & Field Championships two weeks ago with a 2:03.42 mark. The Norway product's time placed her fifth overall in the event and fourth in her heat.
The sophomore has put together a remarkable season, adding another new school record to her campaign. Haugen previously broke both the indoor and outdoor 800-meter run records at the BIG EAST Indoor and Outdoor Championships. At the 2024 Penn Relays, Haugen served as the anchor on the record-breaking sprint medley relay squad.
Chinenye Onuorah represented St. John's in the 400-meter dash at the regional, for the first time in her career. The Thailand native sprinted her way to a 54.49-second mark for 41st overall.
The talented sprinter finished out her junior campaign as the indoor and outdoor BIG EAST Champion in the 400 meters. She also found the podium at the outdoor conference championship with a second-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay and third-place mark in the 200-meter dash.
Haugen will return to the track on Saturday for the quarterfinal round of the 800 meters at the NCAA East Regional. The event will kick off at 7:05 p.m. from the UK Track & Field Complex and will be streamed on ESPN+.
