The Johnnies defeated Monmouth, 1-0, in last season's Belson debut behind a 60th-minute strike from Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau. Since the venue opened in September 2002, the Johnnies are 132-47-40 (.695) in games played at Belson Stadium.
The Johnnies and Seawolves will meet for just the third time in program history. Tani Oluwaseyi led the charge with a five-point effort, scoring twice and assisting on Leggett's strike.
Stony Brook (0-1-0) is also coming off a season-opening setback at the hands of LIU, 2-1. Finlay Oliver notched a goal in the 87th minute, but the Seawolves did not get over the hump to draw with the Sharks.
Head Coach Ryan Anatol, who embarked on his 14th campaign at Stony Brook, saw his team be picked sixth in the CAA Preseason Coaches Poll. Forward Jonas Bickus earned a nod on the Preseason All-CAA Team and received a spot on United Soccer Coaches' Forwards to Watch List. The 2023 All-CAA Second Team selection scored a team-best eight goals last season. Teammate Bas Beckhoven earned a CAA Preseason Honorable Mention.
