The Red Storm will travel to Rutgers on Thurs., Oct. 17 for a charity exhibition benefitting the V Foundation; Johnnies set to host Towson on Sat., Oct. 26 during the University’s Homecoming Weekend to support Autism Speaks
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's basketball program will participate in two charity exhibition games prior to the start of the highly anticipated 2024-25 campaign. The Red Storm will visit Rutgers on Thursday, Oct. 17 before returning to Carnesecca Arena for its home debut against Towson on Saturday, Oct. 26 during the University's Homecoming Weekend.
St. John's will compete in a charity exhibition game with the Scarlet Knights for the second-straight season when it visits Jersey Mike's Arena in Piscataway, N.J., with all ticket proceeds supporting the V Foundation. Game time and ticket information will be announced at a later date.
Last season, the Johnnies edged Rutgers in a double overtime thriller during the preseason slate that raised significant funds for the Dick Vitale Pediatric Cancer Research Fund at the V Foundation. Nahiem Alleyne, who buried a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to force the second extra period, led the Red Storm with 19 points en route to an 89-78 victory on Oct. 21, 2023 in Queens.
The Red Storm Basketball program has maintained a longstanding relationship with the V Foundation and the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF) to support the organizations' ongoing efforts to end childhood cancer. Since the inception of St. John's Dribble for Victory Over Cancer in 2011, the Johnnies have helped raise over $1 million for pediatric cancer research.
This year's edition of Dribble for Victory Over Cancer is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21 on St. John's Queens campus in conjunction with University Service Day. Participants dribble a basketball around campus alongside members of both Red Storm Basketball programs, and will be treated to entertainment refreshments, games and much more. The Johnnies will then play host to Towson inside Carnesecca Arena nine days before its regular season opener. All ticket sale proceeds will benefit Autism Speaks, the largest autism advocacy group dedicated to creating an inclusive world for all individuals with autism throughout their life span through support advocacy, advances in care, research and innovation, services and supports, including no-cost resources and tools to address the needs of autistic people from early diagnosis and intervention to transition to adulthood, aging with autism, and beyond. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m.
Reserved lower-level seats will be $20 while upper-level general admission tickets are available for $10. Tickets can be purchased by visiting RedStormTix.com or calling the St. John's Ticket Office at 1-888-GO-STORM. Student tickets are available to purchase for $5 by visiting the Red Storm Ticket Office and presenting a valid student ID.
Although it is not an official contest, St. John's and Towson will meet for the first time since their inaugural matchup on Nov. 18, 1993. The Tigers edged St. John's, 66-65, despite a 24-point, 12 rebound effort from Shawnelle Scott.
