Men’s Golf Finishes Round One at UConn Invitational at GreatHorse

HAMPDEN, Mass. (Sept. 29, 2024)– The St. John's men's golf team concluded its first of three rounds at the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse on Sunday.
The Red Storm finished the first 18 holes tied for ninth place in the 13-team field. The Johnnies shot 11-over, 299, as a squad in Hampden. Mass.
UConn and Rhode Island are deadlocked for the team lead at 1-under, 287, while the Rams' Tyler Bruneau sits atop the individual leaderboard at 5-under, 67.
Peicheng Chen continued his hot start to the 2024-25 campaign shooting a 1-under, 71, on Sunday. The senior who started out the year winning The Doc Gimmler Red & Black sits tied for eighth place after day one. The Beijing, China native recorded a tournament-best 4.50 stroke average on the par-5's on Sunday.
Freshman Joseph Dolezal started off his round with two birdies on the opening three holes. The Old Westbury, N.Y., native carded a 2-over, 74, good for 23rd place.
Another rookie Frank Wu led the Johnnies with a team-high four birdies. The freshman finished day with a 5-over, 77, tying for 50thplace alongside teammate Tyler Clark.
