Former St. John’s Standout Karin Palgutova Set to Make League One Volleyball Debut with Houston

The Red Storm’s all-time career kills leader is set to make her professional American volleyball debut on Thursday
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's volleyball alumna Karin Palgutova is set to make her American professional volleyball debut with League One Volleyball (LOVB) Houston on Thursday night.
LOVB Houston will open its inaugural season at home against Austin on Thursday at 7 p.m. inside Fort Bend County Epicenter. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
Palgutova, one of the most decorated players in program history, signed a professional contract with LOVB Houston on June 14. She is a member of the Slovakian National Volleyball Team and was named the Slovakian Volleyball Player of the Year in May 2024.
Before coming back to the United States, the Bratislava, Slovakia native inked professional contacts in both France and Switzerland. Throughout the outside hitter's professional career in Europe, Palgutova helped lead her teams to gold medals in the French Ligue A, the French Cup, the Slovakian Extraliga and the Slovakian Cup.
Palgutova enjoyed an illustrious career at St. John's, holding the all-time career records for kills (1,880) and kill attempts (4,827). The talented hitter also ranks second on the all-time career service aces list (135) and is ninth all-time in digs (1,128).
Across her four years in Queens, Palgutova was named a four-time All-BIG EAST First Team selection (2012-15), an AVCA All-East Coast Team honoree (2013) and was an AVCA All-American Honorable Mention choice (2013). She was also tabbed as the BIG EAST Player of the Week six times during her collegiate career.
