Volleyball to Wrap Up Homestand Against Seton Hall

The Red Storm will host Field Trip Day on Tuesday afternoon
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's volleyball team (5-14, 1-5 BIG EAST) concludes its homestand on Tuesday afternoon, welcoming local rival Seton Hall (6-11, 0-6 BIG EAST). The team is set to host "Field Trip Day", as surround schools make their way to Carnesecca Arena for a 12 p.m. first serve. Tomorrow's contest marks the only mid-week match for the Red Storm this season.
The match will air on ESPN+ with Cam Manna and Ethan Berch on the call.
Head Coach Joanne Persico is two wins away from 600 career victories. Persico, in her 32nd season at the helm, ranks 16th among active head coaches in career wins and is the winningest head coach at a single BIG EAST program.
Over the weekend, the Red Storm fell to DePaul and Marquette in Carnesecca Arena. On Friday, the Johnnies went down in straight sets despite the first two sets being decided by two points. Martina Ghezzi led the team in kills, matching her career-high with 14, and paced the team in digs with nine. Erin Jones collected a team-high 19 assists.
On Saturday evening, St. John's pushed Marquette to four sets before falling, 3-1. Jones reached another major career milestone, recording her 1,000th career assist during the third set enroute to leading the team with 21 helpers. Ella Parker paced the offense with 16 kills, followed by Ghezzi with 13. Rashanny Solano Smith anchored the back row with a match-high 21 digs.
Seton Hall is coming off two hard fought matches against DePaul and Marquette as well. On Friday, the Pirates stole a set from Golden Eagles before falling in similar 3-1 fashion. The following day, they pushed Blue Demons to the brink in a highly contested five-set match but ultimately falling short.
As a team, the Pirates rank in the top half of the league in digs and service aces. Sadie Reich leads the Seton Hall attacking unit with 242 kills, averaging 3.67 kills per set. Three student-athletes have collected more than 100 assists on the season, but Gwen Adler paces the offense with 262 assists. On the defensive side of the net, five different Pirates have notched over 100 digs led by Rylee Nelson with 188, averaging 3.69 digs per set. Asil Subasili blocks 0.97 shots per set, totaling 64 blocks on the year.
St. John's will begin a three-match Midwest road trip on Friday, traveling to Omaha, Neb., for a 7 p.m. contest with No.13 Creighton.
