St. John’s Heads to Monmouth for Tuesday Night Clash

Red Storm ready for non-conference tilt in New Jersey
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's Men's Soccer team (6-4-3, 2-2-1 BIG EAST) will head to New Jersey to face Monmouth (5-5-3, 2-2-3 CAA) on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
The contest from Hesse Field in West Long Branch, N.J. will mark the final non-conference tilt against a Divion I opponent this season for the Johnnies. The Red Storm will close the regular season against a Division III foe in CCNY on Nov. 9 in Queens.

The Red Storm is coming off a 1-0 setback at UConn on Friday night, snapping a two-game winning streak. The Huskies tallied the game-winner as Charlie Holmes headed in a corner kick with just seven minutes remaining at Morrone Stadium in Storrs. Prior to that, the Red Storm engineered a pair of comeback victories against then-No. 19 Akron and Providence.
The Red Storm defense has allowed an average of 1.00 goals per contest and has yet to concede more than two goals in a single game. The 1.00 goals against average ranks fourth-best in the BIG EAST and top-50 in NCAA Division I.
Guilherme Gomes was ranked No. 29 in TopDrawerSoccer's Midseason Top 100 Freshman on Friday. The Sao Paulo, Brazil native leads the team with five goals on the year. Center defenseman Bjorn Nikolajewski ranks second on the squad tallying three goals and putting five of his eight shot attempts (62.5%) across seven matches on target.
The two programs will meet for the fifth time with St. John's leading the all-time series 3-1. In the last meeting between the two sides, the Red Storm captured a 1-0 victory on Sept. 1, 2023, in Queens fueled by a Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau game-winner in the 60thminute. The Hawks won their only meeting in the series during the Johnnies last visit to West Long Branch in the 2022 season opener, 1-0.
