St. John’s to Close Homestand against Central Connecticut State on Monday

The Johnnies are coming off a ranked win over No. 18/21 Oklahoma State on Wednesday
QUEENS, N.Y.– Fresh off a ranked victory over No. 21/18 Oklahoma State, the St. John's women's basketball team (4-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) will close its three-game homestand on Monday night against Central Connecticut State (0-4, 0-0 NEC) at 6 p.m.

St. John's is coming off an impressive 74-67 victory over No. 18/21 Oklahoma State on Wednesday night at Carnesecca Arena. The win marked the Johnnies highest ranked triumph since it defeated No. 4/5 UConn on Feb. 21, 2023 and their first non-conference ranked victory over a top 25 opponent at home since they defeated No. 18/17 South Florida on Nov. 29, 2015.
The Red Storm held a double-digit halftime lead over the Cowgirls before the visitors mounted a comeback to tie the game heading into the final frame. St. John's went for 27 points in the fourth quarter, its highest single quarter scoring total this season to claim a top-20 victory at home. The Johnnies held Oklahoma State, who was averaging 105.6 points per game coming into the contest to just 67 points and limited one of the nation's top 3-point shooting teams to just four makes (4-16) from beyond-the-arc.
Offensively, St. John's shot 59.1 percent (26-44) from the field, its highest mark since the it shot 60.3 percent from the floor in the WBIT First Round victory over Florida on March 21, 2024. The Red Storm have shot 58.7 percent (61-104) from the field over the last two contests and dished out 19.5 assists per game during that span. Five different players have shot perfect from field during victories over Yale and Oklahoma State.
After Wednesday's victory, the Red Storm move to 3-0 in Queens on the year. Over its last 22 non-conference home games dating back to the beginning of the 2022-23 season, the Johnnies boast a 20-2 record, including eight of their last nine.
Kylie Lavelle put forth an efficient in the win over the Cowgirls recording a season-high 12 points on perfect 4-of-4 shooting, a career-high six assists and five boards. Fellow frontcourt starter Sa'Mya Wyatt posted 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Over the last two games, Wyatt is averaging 13.0 points on 86.7 percent shooting and 5.5 rebounds per contest. Brooke Moore went for a team-high 13 points on 5-for-5 shooting and has led the Johnnies in scoring in three of her first five contests in Queens. The junior paces the team logging 12.2 points per contest and is shooting 60 percent from the floor.
Point guard Shaulana Wagner ranks second in the BIG EAST logging 5.0 assists per outing and has dished out three or more in each of her first five contests at St. John's. The Troy transfer ranks 23rd among active NCAA Division I players with 387 career helpers.

The Blue Devils enter the contest with an 0-4 record and will play their first contest in nine days. All four losses have come by double-figures, including the most recent setback against UMass Lowell, 70-54, in New Britian, Conn. CCSU was picked to finish fifth in the NEC Preseason Coaches' poll.
Kiyah Lewis leads the Blue Devils averaging 15.3 points per game, which ranks top five in the NEC. The freshman forward leads the conference and ranks top-100 in NCAA Division I logging 3.0 steals per game.
Following the conclusion of the three-game homestand, St. John's will travel to the Cayman Islands Classic for two games at John Gray Gymnasium. The Red Storm will face Georgia Tech on Friday at 5 p.m. ET and Memphis on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
