LAS VEGAS – After taking down Baylor, 96-81, on Tuesday, No. 14/15 St. John's will close out the 2025 Players Era Championship with a ranked showdown against No. 21/25 Auburn.
The game will tip off at 8 p.m. ET inside Michelob ULTRA Arena and air live on truTV. John Minko will call the action on the LEARFIELD Red Storm Sports Network, available on the ESPN New York app, the Varsity Network app, TuneIn, the SiriusXM app, and the St. John's Red Storm app.
St. John's (4-2) scored 90 or more points for the fifth time in six opportunities on Tuesday to defeat the 2021 national champions. The Johnnies' 95.3 points per outing this season are the most by a St. John's team through six games since 1971-72.
The Red Storm, which led by as many as 22 in the second half against Baylor, were led by graduate student Bryce Hopkins. The 6-foot-7 forward/guard scored a season-high 26 points, sinking nine of his 12 field goal tries, including all three of his attempts from beyond the arc. Hopkins, who has scored 15 or more points in every game but one this season, is the Red Storm's leading scorer at 17.3 points per game.
Oziyah Sellers also enjoyed a standout day in the desert, scoring a season-high 22 points. He hit a career-best five 3-pointers for the second straight day, needing just seven attempts to do so. In his two appearances at the Players Era Championship, Sellers is shooting 76.9% (10-13) from beyond the arc.
Dillon Mitchell recorded 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting to go along with six rebounds and six assists. Ian Jackson also had an efficient day from the field, going 5-of-7 on his way to 14 points. The sophomore from the Bronx went 3-for-4 from 3-point range.
Auburn (5-2) enters the contest on the heels of a 102-72 loss to Michigan on Tuesday. The Tigers took down Oregon, 84-73, in the tournament's opening game on Monday.
The team's leading scorer this season at 21.0 points per game, Keshawn Hall netted a team-high 15 points against the Wolverines. The UCF transfer is also the squad's rebounding leader at 9.2 per outing. He has attempted 55 free throws in just six appearances this season, making 51 (92.7%).
Sophomore guard Tahaad Pettiford (13.4 ppg) and senior forward KeShawn Murphy (12.4 ppg) are the other two Tigers averaging double figures. Pettiford, a Jersey City native, is also the team's assists leader at 3.1 per contest.
St. John's and Auburn will meet for just the second time in the history of the two programs on Wednesday. The lone game between the teams came in the second round of the 1986 NCAA Tournament when the Tigers ended one of the most magical seasons in St. John's history. Led by National Player of the Year Walter Berry, the 1985-86 Redmen won a school record 31 games and claimed the BIG EAST Tournament title at Madison Square Garden.
After taking on Auburn, St. John's will return to action against another SEC foe, Ole Miss, on Dec. 6 at Madison Square Garden.
